Sweet Marie Caralde, a Senior High School student, secured fourth place in the Editorial Cartooning category of the first-ever FishCORE Student Journalists Press Conference (Regional Level) sponsored by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) on September 16-17, 2025, in Larena, Siquijor, and Tagbilaran City, Bohol bringing together senior high school students from different schools across the area in the province of Siquijor and Bohol.
The event was one of the highlights of the 62nd Fish Conservation Week celebration with the theme “Pangisdaang Masagana, Sapat na Isda sa Bawat Pamilya,” wherein the students expressed their insights about sustainable fisheries and the importance of providing enough food for every family.
Nina Mae Soco also participated in editorial cartooning category, representing the school and showcasing her skills in writing.
Also, with the help of their coach, Mrs. Geraldine P. Amodia, the students were guided and supported throughout their preparation for the competition.
The press conference served not only as a competition but also as a learning experience, allowing students to gain insights from experts and deepen their understanding of environmental issues.
